This blog is designed to provide parents with information about children's books; mostly to help parents find books to read to their children. Since there are thousands and thousands of children's books out there, it's hard to find books that are worth while. Hopefully I'll help take the guess work out of it. I'm not an expert by any means, but I've learned a few things along the way that I think could be helpful. My hope is that over time I will build a sort of children's book database. Enjoy!

Iza Trapani and Mary Ann Hoberman

I really enjoy when authors take something well know and completely recreate it.  Books by Iza Trapani and Mary Ann Hoberman take traditional songs (Like “Mary Had a Little Lamb”) and write additional verses to create a story.  I love singing the story to my kids and they are always enthralled!  Right now my youngest is stuck on Mary Had a Little Lamb and The Eensy Weensy Spider.  I can’t help but notice that my older two always seem to end up right by my side listening too!  Kids love books that you can sing!
Here are by favorites:
Iza Trapani:
How Much is That Doggie in the Window
The Itsy Bitsy Spider
Here We Go ‘Round the Mulberry Bush
Row, Row, Row Your Boat
Shoo Fly!
Oh Where, Oh Where Has My Little Dog Gone
Baa, Baa, Black Sheep

Mary Ann Hoberman:
Mary Had a Little Lamb
Bill Grogan’s Goat
The Eensy Weensy Spider (I sing “Itsy Bitsy” because that’s how I learned it!)

Harry the Dirty Dog

This is an older series (written in the 1950’s!), but it’s so good!  Harry the Dirty Dog is the first book in the series by Gene Zion.  Harry doesn’t want a bath, so after burying his bath brush in the backyard, he runs away.  He gets so dirty, when he returns home his family doesn’t recognize him!  I have the entire series because my kids love these books so much.  This dog gets into all kinds of mischief!
